How do I schedule an appointment?
Please contact me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message at (310) 560-2056, to determine whether I am accepting new clients. I will do my best to return your call within 1 business day.
During our initial contact, we will discuss why you seek therapy and determine whether we are a good fit to work together in therapy. We will also discuss scheduling and payment issues. I encourage you to ask any questions you might have about my practice during our initial contact and/or initial session.
What can I expect during the initial session?
Before your first session, I will e-mail you intake documents for you to complete before your first appointment. Alternatively, we may arrange for you to arrive 15 minutes early to the initial appointment to give you time to complete paperwork before our first meeting.
During the first 50-minute session, we will review my office policies, including confidentiality and payment issues, address any questions you may have and discuss, in detail, your reasons for coming to therapy, as well as any relevant background history. At the end of the session, we will develop goals for therapy and discuss a preliminary treatment plan.
How often do I need to come, and how long do I need to be in therapy?
I typically recommend coming to therapy once per week. In some instances, or after sufficient progress has been made, we may discuss reducing meetings to every other week.
Many clients experience improvement in their symptoms within 10-20 sessions, however, sometimes a reduction in symptoms takes longer than 20 sessions. Many clients choose to remain in longer-term therapy to continue in their personal growth, maintain progress, or address more complex problems.
What are your rates?
My standard rate is $150 per 50-minute session. I offer reduced rates on a limited basis for those who cannot afford to pay the full fee due to unemployment or student status, for example.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information disclosed during therapy may not be disclosed to anyone without the client’s written permission, except if the disclosed information:
- Involves suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- Involves the client threatening serious bodily harm to other person(s), I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- Involves the client’s intention to harm himself or herself; I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. Otherwise, I will take further measures (without the client’s permission) in order to ensure the client’s safety.
Do you take insurance?
I take Medicare and some Blue Shield insurance plans. Please verify benefits with your Blue Shield plan.
If you have insurance other than Medicare or Blue Shield, I am happy to provide you with a monthly “superbill” to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash and checks only. Payment is due at time of service.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Because your appointment time is reserved only for you, if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, or if you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you are responsible for payment for that time. Please note that I am unable to bill insurance for late cancellations or missed appointments.
